Penny Stocks on the Irish Stock Exchange

One of the things that frequently comes up in conversation I notice is what do you think of this small company on the Irish Stock Exchange. Also for any of us who flick through the Pheonix Magazine and look at the business section you usually see something on one of these types of companies listed in Ireland.
First of all I define a penny stock as one which trades for less than one euro. There is no standard definition but I think it works well for the ISEQ.
Based on this criteria the following companies listed in alplabetical order are
Company Name Dublin Ticker Symbol Day/Month/Week
Abbey PLC                                      DOY:ISE                 Y/Y/Y
AIB                                                    AIB:ISE                  X/X/X
Aminex PLC                                   DOP:ISE                  X/X/X
Bank of Ireland                               BIR:ISE                  X/Y/Y
Conroy Gold                                    FKV:ISE                  X/X/X
Falcon Oil                                         FAC:ISE                  X/X/X

Game Account Network                GAME:ISE               X/X/X
Great Western Mining                    8GW:ISE                Y/X/X
Independent News and Media      IPD:ISE                  X/X/Y
Karelian Diamond Resources        KJY:ISE                 X/X/X
Merrion Pharmaceuticals              3MP:ISE                 X/X/X
Mincon Group.                                 MIO:ISE                 X/X/X
Ormonde Mining                             ORQ:ISE                 X/X/X
Petroceltic International                EG5A:ISE                X/X/X
Petroneft Resources                        P8ET:ISE                 X/X/X
Prime Active Capital                        OKRA:ISE               Y/Y/Y
Providence Resources                      PZQ:ISE                  Y/X/X
Zamano PLC                                       ZAZ:ISE                  X/Y/Y

The Day/Week/Month refers to
Daily Chart over one year,
Weekly Chart over five years,
Monthly Chart over ten years.
Think of like a trafic light system depending on your style of investing/trading period horizon. I have used my own set of criteria.
As you can clearly see there are only two companies that rea positive for all three periods, they are Abbey PLC and Prime Active Capital.
Abbey is involved in plant hire and construction, so it looks like things are beginning to come back in that area, its P/E is only 8.5 and has a positive earnings per share of 1.84cents.
What I cannot understand is why the second company looks positive from a charting point of view and yet its loosing money with a negative earnings per share. Is someone interested in buying it?
Anyway, food for thought, regards, Pearse.

    1. Hi Paul, I have used TD Waterhouse in the UK for small Irish stocks and Uk stocks in general. The important thing is to only place a limit order and never a market order. They are not liquid, I learnt this the hard way!
My main reason for posting this was because I am reading an interesting book by Peter Leeds called Pennystocks,
      http://www.amazon.com/Penny-Stocks-Dummies-Peter-Leeds/dp/1118521692/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1445798395&sr=8-1&keywords=Penny+stocks
Thanks for the comment. I’m not very tech savvy but have to start somewhere, thanks, Pearse
